Morality Wars Test

Postby Zombie » Fri May 29, 2009 10:21 pm

The First Test of our Morality Wars is coming up. Currently in game the polls lead me to believe it will happen during the second week of JUNE.
It Is important for ALL PLAYERS to prepare themselves for this test.
This will be a test to assist you, the players, in understanding the functionality of the Morality Wars.

For the Purposes of this test Neither a Poll NOR Neutral Participation will be allowed. Neutral Participation is where people who have a neutral morality (-10ish to +10ish morality) can participate in the event.
My Reasoning for this is simple. The Neutral People have FAR too powerful a menu and are allowed access to all Morality maps in varied ways.

Now to Explain the Morality Wars as best as I am able to do so:
1. The Purpose:
~~~The purpose of the morality wars is generally to decide the morality of a Map, a Mob, or an Item. "But What does that mean Zombie?" Well to put it simply, Raptor and I have a slew of items in queue which have not been used for any quests. These items look cool, and technically can be either good or bad items. When I say good or bad, this means that the item can only be obtained by doing the "bad/evil" quests or "good" quests. So, the "wars" allow the winning team to VOTE on one of the options they think should be their morality. The losers of the war, get stuck with the option the winners do not vote for en masse. FOR EXAMPLE:
Let's say we throw a war. Let's say Good wins the war. Let's then suppose a poll opens and the options are: "Hallowed Wings", "Crescent Wings". Finally, we will suppose that the good people vote 60/40--> meaning that "Hallowed Wings" becomes a good item. This thus means that "Crescent Wings" becomes evil by default. Now, you'll notice that no evil account had a choice in this decision, and heck they may have wanted hallowed wings for their side because it looks so cool. This is not to say that the winning team GETS the item, but it is to say that the winning team becomes the only team ABLE to get the item. (or in the case of maps visit it, and in the case of mobs have it summoned as their mobs see below).
2. The Layout:
~~~The Way these wars work is there is a "Good Base" an "Evil base" and there is a "Good Mob Map" and an "Evil Mob Map". Each team has 2 options. "Defend the Base" or "Assault the Opposition".
~~~~~Defend---
Defense is fairly complex. When you DEFEND your base, your object is to kill ANY members of the opposite morality. To make your job "easier" the opposition's goal is to enter the portals located on the "Good" or "Evil" "BASE" map in order to be warped to the "MOB MAP" (see assault). Sadly, to make your job HARDER the warp portals DON'T stay still. Instead, the warp portals move every 3 or so minutes randomly on the map. To increase the difficulty for both Defenders and Attackers though, the "BASE MAP" looks identical everywhere you go, and it is FLAT and HUGE. "DEFENSE" is difficult, and the best advice i can give, is to PARTY UP. And for the Party's to all go to their own corners. Remember STOP the "Assaulters" from entering the portal at all costs. (PLEASE NOTE: DEFENDERS cannot enter the portals. ONLY ASSAULTERS can enter the portal and move on to attack the mobs. Defenders want to defend the mobs, and to do that, must defend the portal to do so). Defenders have the luxury of being warped to the Center of the "BASE MAP". ALWAYS
~~~~~Assault---
Assault is fairly simple, but in no ways easy. Assaulter's have multiple difficulties layered upon them. First of all, Assaulters are RANDOMLY Warped on the Enemies "BASE MAP". Secondly, the goal for the assaulter is the moving portals which are heavily guarded by the "Defending" team members. THIRDLY, once inside the portal, The assaulter is AGAIN randomly warped on the "MOB MAP". Why do we do this? Well it is to make sure that Assaulters cannot team up easily. An Assaulter is basically a lone wolf more or less; Although it is helpful to charge in as a group to get to the portal when able. The goal for the assaulter is to KILL THE ENEMIES Mobs. But we added an EXTRA difficulty upon you. You see, once you kill 2 of their mobs, you have to wait 20 seconds before you can assault again. Why do we do this? It is to give the defense some time to regroup and reorganize their strategy, remember they want to kill you, but you only want to kill their mobs. Assaulters are ALWAYS Randomly warped to both the "BASE MAP" of the Enemy, and to the "MOB MAP" if they ever got there. (If you're really lucky you somehow get double warped :) ).
~~~~Victory Conditions---
Once all the mobs of a particular morality are dead ie- all the good mobs are dead. The opposing morality AUTOMATICALLY wins. If there is victory polls, they will automatically open up.
~~~~Switching Positions---
It is a good idea to switch around between defense and offense (Especially during your 20 second cool down time). In this way, you can defend your base from the opposition till you die (or till your cool down time is over, or until you want to assault or w/e) and then swap over to offense. The NPC has options for both (have to go back to t_room and talk to it obviously). When you go to the other option, your character will obey the rules of that option- IE- if i was an assaulter and i decided to defend, then once i choose the "Defend" option, my character obeys the "Defense" rules so to speak. and vice versa
Neutral Participation:
~~~Neutral Participation is pretty broken in some ways. Why? Well, they can "Defend GOOD" "Defend EVIL" "Assault GOOD" AND "Assault EVIL". Essentially, they can do ANYTHING. Why is this REALLY Bad? Well, if i were a Neutral Participant and I was "Defending Good" I could, turn around, walk into the portal i SHOULD be defending and instead kill the good mobs, and thus become an assaulter for evil. But don't think the NPCs don't notice this (see moral affect below). The same can be done in reverse (ie- im an attacker and suddenly decide to defend blah blah blah). Please Note: Once you DO kill a mob, your morality WILL be affected and you will likely No longer be neutral!
Moral Affect:
~~~Every time you kill a mob, your morality will be affected. If you kill a good mob, you become evil (more evil). And Vice Versa. Originally this was an issue for people killing their own kinds of mobs (IE- good guy killing good mobs which he is supposed to protect). However: OUR NEW updates to the system forbid any "GOOD" from entering the "GOOD MOB" map and thus messing with the system. So you no longer have to worry about it (plus it makes it easier to understand the game).
3. The Grand Scheme:
All in all, the Morality Wars Event is something designed to occur rarely. We will Try our VERY VERY BEST to announce when a Morality War is coming at least two weeks in advance on MULTIPLE media (IE- In game forum, in game announcements, regular forum, main page if possible, and CP if possible, and CERTAINLY on the patcher). We hope people have fun with this event, and as the server's population increases, we hope the Event truly inspires some wicked awesome wars. As the Population increases, we will try to increase the mobs and the size of the mob maps (certainly something the wars may very well decide the fate of later on if you catch my drift.)

Please Note: When the IN GAME vote is going on, Raptor and I will try our best to host JPGs of the options on the forums. It is important that all players be as active as possible across our mediums in order to promote a more engaging experience of game play :)

Oh yeah, a side note on defense:
If one side is way overpowered, the GMs may step in and help them out: IE- if everyone becomes evil, the GMs might become the good guys heheheheh
